Pei Wei History

Pei Wei is an Asian Diner restaurant chain based in the United States. All of their meals are made-to-order and prepared on-site. The company has 190 locations spread across America and 5 international destinations as well. The company is owned by P.F Chang’s. Pei Wei’s menu is unique and features wok-seared, contemporary meals from five Asian countries and the staff is also committed to maintaining high-quality standards of food.

The restaurant was founded in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2000 and currently operates in more than 15 states across the U.S. They have a strong presence in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida with an ever growing presence in Northeast and Midwest regions as well. Pei Wei’s layout consists of a counter service bar where guests order directly from the cashier and food is delivered to the table, a serving style known in the food industry as fast casual. The company has special doors in all their restaurants where cashiers offer takeout food orders. Pei Wei has signature menu items and also provides a slightly different dining atmosphere compared to its parent company, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. Chang’s is an indirect, fully-owned subsidiary of Wok Parent LLC.

Pei Wei has also received numerous awards over the years such as the Nation’s Restaurant News Hot Concept accolade of 2003, and the highest rated fast casual chain of 2007 according to Sandelman & Associate’s. In July 2015, the company launched a customer loyalty program where customers amass points during each visit, and these can be used for redemption of free food. In 2011, the restaurant announced a pact with Alsea to open new franchise locations in Mexico. However, these have since been closed for various reasons.

Additionally, they have started using digital signage instead of printed menu panels which previously worked as a single static board for displaying menu items. This has been done to open a communication channel with customers so that they can place orders more easily.

Summary

Pei Wei has some great options on their menu if your looking to try some gluten-free Asian food. They have a gluten-free section on their menu, so you don’t need to worry about making modifications or requesting for ingredients to be taken off. We also love that they use an alternative ingredient (potato starch) to still get their meat crispy on the outside.

  1. My 19 year old son was just diagnosed with UC. He’s able to eat, currently, and we’re going to give this a shot to see if it perks him up a bit. I’ve subscribed to your blog. good luck with your journey

    • Very sorry to hear that. It takes a while to learn what works and what doesn’t, but don’t let your son get discouraged. In most cases UC can be managed with a good diet, and some lifestyle changes. I have been off all my meds for over 2 years now :) Diet is a big key. I wish your son the best of luck!
