Perkins Gluten-Free Menu 2024

Here is the complete Perkins Gluten-Free menu.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery has a good variety of gluten-free items of their menu from breakfast to dinner. They do state that all of their food is prepared in a common kitchen with gluten exposure, so some cross contamination can happen.

They do not recommend people with celiac disease or a gluten allergy eat at their restaurant, and give a warning to those who are gluten sensitive.

We wish they put a little more effort into making their menu safe to eat, but for those who aren’t extremely sensitive to gluten, their are a variety of items that are technically gluten-free to choose from.

Perkins History

Perkins is a family restaurant chain that operates more than 450 restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada. Their locations serve signature dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner while also guaranteeing guests a comfortable and friendly dining experience. This company is family owned and managed with most of their food being moderately priced.

Perkins was founded in 1958 as Tennessee Restaurant Company. The original proprietor was William Smith. Later on, they changed their name to Perkins, naming the restaurant after Ivan Perkins and Ohioans Mat. The original eatery featured a special pancake recipe that proved to be a success among the locals. The owners later on expanded their reach to Silverton, Ohio which is a small suburb of Cincinnati.

By the early 1990’s, Perkins was ranked among the top 5 chains in the family dining sector of the food industry. At the beginning they only served pancakes, but their menu has since grown to feature more than 100 new items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most of their locations also have specialty items like muffins, pies, cakes, pastries and cookies which are all prepared at in-restaurant bakeries. Statistics show that chain-wide sales for the company hit $678 million in 1996 and of this sum around $235 million was retained back by the Perkins organization.

Currently, the company has sharpened its focus towards serving children as well. They have a special program known as KidPerks which incorporates a menu expansion plan and new entertainment options. Moreover, in place of the traditional coloring page and crayons that are typically used to entertain children as they wait for dinner to be served, KidPerks offers a much better option of handheld computer games, sonic books, comic books, Etch a Sketch toys and free popcorn to calm their grumbling stomachs. Perkins also has a subsidiary baked items manufacturing division that operates under the brand name Foxtail. They produce pies, cookie dough, pancake mixes and muffin batter which are sold to third party customers and in their restaurant bakeries.

Summary

Perkins Restaurant technically has a pretty good variety of gluten-free options to choose from. They have breakfast options, some dinner entrees, and various sides and salads. However, they are up front about a serious possibility of cross contamination with their food and warn anyone who has a gluten sensitivity to use caution when dining there. It could be a good place to try if you are just avoiding gluten and don’t have any extreme sensitivity or allergy, but we wish they did a bit more to make their kitchens safe for those who have to eat gluten-free.

  1. While I appreciate Perkins foray into gluten free ding I hope they will expand further. I do not eat eggs , therefore my breakfast options are limited. Another breakfast chain offers GF pancakes made with Pamela’s GF flour as well as French Toast made with Udis GF bread available at Costco. It would simply take cooking them in a sperate frying pan. I know the GF population is growing and I’m sure there are many people like me who would appreciate these GF items.
    Thank you for your time.

  2. I like that they have a gluten free menu. I too would like to see gluten free English muffins and breads.
I think they should take over the former Village Inn restaurant west of 132nd and Maple so we don’t have to drive down past the airport in Omaha, Nebraska.

  3. My husband eats gluten free due to digestive issues, and he finds plenty of options at Perkins. Unfortunately when he was finishing his broiled fish & shrimp over rice, he noticed some odd looking rice which I believe is orzo, a pasta, made with wheat. it should be mentioned on the menu.
